Camden Cruz, guitarist for the Florida-based power metal band Seven Kingdoms, recently took a break from recording the band's new disc to speak with me about his favorite piece of gear. Here is what he had to say about his ENGL amps and cabs.
What one piece of gear do you use to obtain your signature sound? Camden: We use ENGL Guitar Amps. We have always loved the sound that ENGL has to offer. I have played most of the other brands and it just does not bring the level of intensity that we want in our music. ENGL’s XXL Cabinets also helped capture the true power of the head. The two together make sure everything is very tight and punchy for the fast palm-muted riffing the band plays. The lead tone is also un-matched!
What about it makes it so important to you? Camden: The ENGLs are bulletproof. They never break and are simply the best the market has to offer for a band like ours. They look, sound and just tour great! They also are some of the most versatile heads on the market today; you can make any sound you want out of it.
What are the major pros and cons? Camden: There are no real cons about anything ENGL. The only thing better than 1 ENGL are 2 ENGLs.
How long have you had it, how do you use it, would you ever change it? Camden: I have been using ENGL since about 2008. We went on tour with Blind Guardian and shorty after were offered an endorsement with the brand. It was truly a tremendous accomplishment for me, since that was "the" amp manufacturer that I had always wanted to be with. I have a Savage 120 now and hope to get myself a Powerball II soon, followed by as many XXL cabs I can possibly have. I’m a gear nut. I would never change anything besides have more of it.
Any final thoughts or comments on the gear? Camden: Just want to say thanks to Michael and all the team at ENGL. You guys make the best product on the market! I encourage any new or old band playing power metal to try these amps out. You will love it as much as we do!
