Earlier this week, The Clio Awards -- the esteemed international advertising, design and communications competition -- announced its 2017 nominees. Winners of this year's Clios will be announced at the 58th Annual Clio Awards, which will take place on September 27 at The Tent at Lincoln Center in New York City. Cecily Strong of Saturday Night Live will host the event.
Also announced today was Clio Music Honorary award recipient Kasseem Dean, better known worldwide as Swizz Beatz. An internationally-acclaimed, Grammy Award-winning music producer and global entrepreneur, Dean began deejaying and working at Ruff Ryder Records, which was started by his two uncles, Darrin “Dee” Dean and Joaquin “Waah” Dean, and his aunt Chivon Dean. Within a short time, Dean produced the company’s first hit, as recorded by DMX.
Further success quickly followed for Dean as a producer and artist. At 23, Dean founded his own record label, Full Surface Records, with Clive Davis. At the age of 33, he earned a Grammy Award. As a producer, Dean has worked with a diverse range of artists, including Jay-Z, Madonna, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, and Metallica, leading to over 350 million records sold worldwide.
At this year's ceremony, Marian Hill and Iron & Wine are both scheduled to perform during the Clio Music portion of the evening. “We are proud to continue our support of Clio Music and this exceptional evening that celebrates the top minds in the creative industry and the tremendous emotive power of music in advertising,” said Jennifer Breithaupt, Global Consumer Chief Marketing Officer, Citi.
