The Whistles & the Bells has announced that he will release his second album Modern Plagues on New West Records on April 28th. The Whistles & the Bells is the moniker used by singer, songwriter and producer Bryan Simpson. To showcase what The Whistles & the Bells is all about, Simpson has released a new music video for the album track "Good Drugs." The video showcases Simpson as an infomercial salesman and late night TV swindler who promises a quick-fix for depressed viewers.

Modern Plagues features contributors such as The Raconteurs' Brendan Benson on the out-of-the-box song "Harry Potter" which is the record's lead singer. The Whistles & The Bells will debut many of the new album's tracks live at SXSW during a special performance for New West Records’ official showcase at Lamberts Austin on Saturday, March 18th. Many of the other contributing musicians to Modern Plagues, including Cadillac Sky member Matt Menefee and rising singer/songwriter Phoebe Cryar will join Simpson for the special performance. After the SXSW show, Simpson will kick off an extensive East Coast tour on April 30th with a hometown show at 3rd & Lindsley for WRLT’s Nashville Sunday Night.

Modern Plagues was co-produced by Simpson and engineer Eddie Spear (Judah & the Lion, Lake Street Dive, Rival Sons). Benson also contributed to the songs "Small Time Criminals" and "Zombie Heartz." The album follows The Whistles & the Bells 2014 self-titled debut record which gained critical acclaim as an indie release which led to a larger re-release and record deal with New West Records. Simpson has also gained a lot of success as a mainstream country songwriter, composing hit tracks for icons such as Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton and George Strait.
