Norglen was getting airtime before they even put out a demo. Back when the band was only Andrew Doll (vocals, guitar), Brendan O’Byrne (bass, keys) and Joel McCann (drums), three best friends who grew up living minutes away from each other on a street called (get this) Norglen Crescent in Northern Alberta, they got a surprise late one night...

In the music world, there are metal bands and then there are metal bands, groups responsible for defining the genre and essentially helping make it into what it is. And while metal bands are relatively a dime a dozen, there are very few metal bands, maybe enough to count on one hand. Unfortunately genre defining bands are for the most part a dying breed.

How’s this for a rock n’ roll story: Adelitas Way took their name from a brothel in Mexico. It’s not as scandalous as it sounds, however – while on a road trip through Southern California, the band ended up in Mexico, only to be arrested by corrupt police who took all of the band’s money in exchange for their release.

SCENE: A high school music room in Sydney, Australia, 1997. Boy (Shimon Moore) meets Girl (Emma Anzai). Girl asks Boy if he knows any songs by the likes of Silverchair, RATM, Green Day. Boy says yeah. Boy and Girl began to jam, found a drummer (Chris Mileski, later replaced by Mark Goodman), and started writing songs. Hence, Sick Puppies was born.

We have taken it upon ourselves to get together and bust out a list once a month where we tell you about a handful of sick-ass bands that we feel NEED to be heard.

While many people opt for the more traditional morning church or dinner with family, some carpool out to South Street for the Philadelphia annual Zombie Crawl. The Zombie Crawl is a pub crawl which takes place every Easter. People dress up in full zombie make-up and costume, and hop from bar to bar--while scaring the general public of course.

What is the state of Michigan known for? The automotive industry? The best professional hockey team in the world? The focal point of the current U.S. economic recession? It seems that Michigan is notorious for a lot of things, including being one of the rock and roll capitals of the U.S. if not the world. Going back to the 1950s, there has been...

Work. Tour. Work. Tour. It’s a routine that Assemble Me have gotten used to since they started up in 2007. Currently living out the “tour” part of this pattern, they’re out promoting their new release Atelophobia, an album which guitarist and vocalist Dan Thomson calls their "greatest group effort yet", paying special attention to the word “group.”

For the inaugural edition of The Flipside, I thought I would take a moment, introduce myself and let you know what to expect from this column in the months to come. I plan on focusing on engineers and producers as well as many others behind the scenes from various genres of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal and asking them very specific questions about...

If you want to impress a Korean friend, try chomping on the still wiggling tentacles of a raw octopus, washing it down with a shot of Soju, and belting out a lively rendition of a Sinatra track of your choice in a sweaty Karaoke room. At first glance, in fact, you could be forgiven for thinking the entire Korean music scene is about a musical accompaniment to drinking.

Growing up, I was a pop princess. The most influential bands of my childhood were *N Sync, Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, Mariah Carey, and Five (sorry... 5ive). I lived for the release of Planet Pop, hoping beyond hope that *B-Witched would be on it this time around. I’d say I was lying about all this, but, well, that’d be lying.
