The supergroup Dead Cross have unexpectedly released a brand new EP simply titled Dead Cross. If you have been living under a rock for the last few years, you might not know that this band is made up of some of the most talented musicians in the business. Drummer Dave Lombardo of Slayer and Philm fame, vocalist Mike Patton of Faith No More, bassist Justin Pearson of Retox, and guitarist Michael Crain of Retox and Festival of The Dead Deer, channel all of their talent into an insanely chaotic punk explosion that at times is completely overwhelming.

Listening to the individual members play their parts will leave you slack-jawed. Lombardo’s crazy, fast-paced, off-tempo rhythms mixed with the psychotic vocal delivery of Mike Patton creates something like a soundtrack to the impending Armageddon. This is unrelenting in its brutality and at times made my head spin; I feel it might be a bit too much, at least for me.

The first two tracks, “Skin of a Redneck” and “My Perfect Prisoner”, are brand new tracks while the last two, “Shillelagh” and “Church of The Motherfuckers”, are remixes of tunes originally released on their debut. At first, I wasn’t sure what to think of the remixes as they have a slightly EDM/dubstep thing going on in the background that seemed out of place. Though after a few listens, it doesn’t really matter because it just adds more dimension to the discordance and otherwise chaotic atmosphere, and in the end it sort of works.

This disc is not for the faint of heart.
