October 7th, 2008 might have come and gone like any other night, but for lucky Canadian August Burns Red fans it will last forever.
Chicago-based Punk Rockers Rise Against hit up Toronto, Canada on October 3rd and again on October 4th for some wicked back-to-back Rock mayhem. Why 2 nights some of you may be wondering... well because they are that effin' good!
On June 22nd, 2008, Hardcore legends Hatebreed stopped through Toronto, Canada while co-headlining on the Jagermeister Music Tour. The Opera House was abuzz with happy fans and our Stoked interviewer Mitch Brown caught up with the legend himself, Jamey Jasta. Jamey had just woken up to do this interview, but was surprisingly astute. Once underway, Jamey talked about Hatebreed as well as his various other bands, project, record label and much more. What's funny about the interview is that Mitch didn't seem to mind the random cord dangling in his face throughout the interview... Oh well, at least Jamey got a kick out of it.
On May 14th, 2008, Motion City Soundtrack brought motion to our city of Toronto along with soundtracks off their most recent album titled Even If It Kills Me. Walking to the show was a drag because it was raining so hard, but once I got there the sun came out and things went smoothly. On the band's dry bus I managed to catch up with bassist Matt Taylor and drummer Tony Thaxton. Check it out.
On May 10th, 2008, People in Planes came overseas to pay us a visit from Cardiff, Whales for a short week to do some promotion for themselves. I met up with them at the Spoke Club which is some fancy-ass club for people involved in media and entertainment. After the interview (where we spoke with vocalist Gareth Jones & guitarist Peter Roberts) I got to…
On May 14th, 2008 Evergreen Terrace came strolling through the slums of Toronto and we figured we'd meet up with them and ask them what the heck was up.
The year summer started in May! Misery Signals made it all happen when they came over the border for their show at the Pheonix on May 14th and brought a whole lot of melodic riffs and hard-pounding breakdowns along with them. Their new CD Controller is not out yet but they happen to give us a little taste of it that night. Want to know what ingredients go into…
As I Lay Dying came through Toronto on Wednesday May 14th at the Phoenix and we managed to ask lead guitarist Phil Sgrosso some deadly questions on their tour bus. The band was headlining the tour and put on a perfect show. We wouldn't be surprised if there was a kid in the mosh pit who died that night listening to As I Lay Dying as he lay dying.
May 4th was both a sad and rad day in Toronto, Canada. Sad, because it marked the last time that Industrial Metal pioneers Ministry were to play our city, and rad, well because we go to see them! What was even MORE rad, was that Meshuggah was their supporting act. Being a band who loves to play in Toronto and always gets a HUGE Canadian reception, it was no surprise then that rhythm guitarist Marten Hagstrom was kind enough to take time out to chat. We talked about the tour, playing with Ministry, the facts behind their punishing new effort, obZen and recording drums in a barn.
On the 20th of December, just before that jolly, warm, fuzzy time of year, Terror hit Toronto, Canada with Chimaira, playing a CRAZY show at the Opera House. Hardcore vets Terror, dropped a killer set, and just prior to the show we caught up with drummer Nick Jett for an interview. Nick talked with Mitch Brown about their…
On October 30th, 2007, Cradle of Filth rolled through Toronto, Canada and dropped a monstrous performance at the Docks, nightclub. Needles to say, a Metal show the night before Halloween was something magical and fortunately for the fans, we got to catch up with guitarist Paul Allender prior to the show. Paul talked about the newest album Thornography, the years in the scene, and fans you would not expect to rock out!
On November 9th, 2007, Sherwood graced the Guvernment with The Rocket Summer and The Acadmey Is.... It was a hell of a night and thankfully for the band and the fans, we caught up with Sherwood Keyboard maestro Mike Leibovich for some Q&A. He talked about tours, their new record and why it's NERF or nothing!
On August 1st, 2007, Toronto's Phoenix Night Club was privy to host a show headed by a band that is no stranger to our city! Silverchair is without a doubt, a group of phenomenal musicians, who not only stand the test of time, but also seem to produce forever- evolving new music! We were able to meet up with drummer Ben Gillies before the
As is customary with BIG summer festivals, the Warped Tour made its appearance in Canada again this year! With a huge bill and a a long day of heavy rocking, PureGrain staff were able to meet up with Still Remains frontman T.J. Miller and find a quiet spot (onboard their shared tour bus) to talk about the tour itself, their new album The Serpent, their pending tour with Aiden, and some deep philosophical talk about... MUSIC!!!
Manson & Slayer are names that you HAVE to know! In fact, most of you probably already know of them. But what about Bleeding Through? Once again this is a name and band that you NEED to be aware of! They are so rad in fact, that they are just coming off of a HUGE tour with the two aforementioned artists.
Though interviewer Spencer Matulaitis had barely heard of Simon Dawes, it was obvious that he was stoked on seeing them open for Incubus. Check out how the meet and greet with this up and coming band went when they hit up Toronto late Summer 2007, at the Molson Amphitheatre.
The Summer is ALWAYS all about BIG tours and festivals. You know those all day shows that make you want to call in sick to work and rock the EFF out! Well Warped Tour happened to be the most recent big day out and we caught up with As I Lay Dying guitarist Nick Hipa to see what was up. On their cooled bus, Nick told us about touring mishaps, details about the new album An Ocean Between Us, info on coming tours, air-guitaring, and how to dance at an AILD show!!!
For our last installment of the SOTU '07 viderviews we have a nice lil one lined up with This Is Hell guitarist Rick Jimenez. In a noisy cafeteria just next to the Kool Haus venue in Toronto, Canada, we caught up with the band and subsequently spoke to the hardcore axe-man in brief. Rick was a super-nice dude and gave us some great insight into the band's hardcore roots, their split 7 inch with Toronto's own Cancer Bats, and how stoked he was to be hitting up Europe soon after the band's SOTU dates ended.
Maybe you're getting sick of hearing about SOTU '07... but whatever... deal with it! For this installment of our viderviews, we are bringing you a candid interview with Amon Amarth frontman Johan Hegg.
You all know that this summer SOTU '07 demolished the whole North American content! Well, we caught up with an equally devastating group in Job For A Cowboy and spoke with frontman Jonny Davy and guitarist Bobby Thompson just outside the Kool Haus on a grassy knoll. The guys answered questions about their latest music video, new album Genesis, and a whole lot more including tour plans for the rest of the year! Enjoy ya'll!
