Washington, DC’s The 5:55 are ramping up to release their debut five-track EP in May and, following on the heels of the album’s popular lead single “Marquee,” we’re stoked to debut song number two, “Slow Down!” An upbeat tune that boasts a good balance of swagger and humble that’ll appeal to a wide audience (from musicheads to the college crowd), “Slow Down” may be purchased here while tickets to upcoming shows can be found right here (list of dates below).

The 5:55’s singer and guitarist, Collin Steves, shared that the latest single is “about realizing your life is a mess, and taking some time to figure out how to get it in order.” Rounded out by musicians Kevin Goldman (guitar), Max Biskup (bass), and Ryan Steves (drums/vocals), this is one band who’s indie rock will take them to new heights; for example, they’ve already opened for Imagine Dragons and played with Jesse McCartney and the Black Eyed Peas. The upcoming EP was recorded with Austin Bello (yep, the bassist and founding member of Forever The Sickest Kids).

Do NOT “Slow Down” at all. Hit play on this track as fast as you can!

Speaking of the song, the guys shared the following:

“‘Slow Down’ was the second song we did with producer Austin Bello (Forever The Sickest Kids). Austin and I actually wrote a good bit of the song during a meeting we had a couple of weeks before getting in the studio. He asked what I was currently working on, so I played him the chorus. He seemed to enjoy it because he grabbed his acoustic and we started messing around with the song. We recorded what we had on our phones and agreed that we’d come back to it when we were in the studio. The first song we recorded with Austin, and our last single (‘Marquee’), was more of an indie-pop song. So when it came to recording ‘Slow Down’ we wanted it to be a little dirtier sounding, to try and spice things up and match the message of the song. The concept is realizing how much of a mess your life is, and then taking a step back to figure out how to get things in order.”

Time to stop what you’re doing and watch the video for lead single “Marquee.”
