While we bet you’ve never heard of Mattituck, New York, perhaps you should become familiar with it for it’s the birthplace, of sorts, for the creative songwriting team, now a band, known as The Crushing Violets. From their latest record Ghost Fields, “Bare Trees” is one of the standout tracks thus far in their short career. Checking in with a very enlightening comment on the song, lead singer Antanina Brooks said, “Words are stinging on the darkest night, bare trees clinging to life; which is kind of a metaphor of how we, just like trees, endure every season and storm and somehow survive through it all.”

The band is the creation of the duo of guitarist and vocalist BP Brooks and lead singer Antanina Brooks. The addition of Connor Brooks on bass and Mike Dilgen on drums has created a well-oiled machine musically that is now gaining the exposure they deserve. The Crushing Violets recorded and released their debut record Starless Sky in 2016, a collection of tracks about dreams, hopes and mortal frailty.

They changed things up theme wise for the follow up with Ghost Fields a record that aims to take listeners to an alternate dimension of space, time and sonic enlightenment. It is both haunting and beautiful at the same time and truly a triumph for a band with only one album behind them. There's much more to come in the future from The Crushing Violets for the coming year, so we'll enjoy this one and wait for them to top themselves once again, which quite likely they will do.

If you dug that, then check out “Shadow of The Sun” off the band’s debut record Starless Sky.
