British indie/alternative rock quartet, The Sherlocks, whom we previously featured in 2017 in support of their then-new debut release, Live for the Moment, are back once again to deliver more of their mellow-yet-dynamic, emotionally-moving-yet-rocking music. This time around the gent’s recording is titled Under Your Sky, and is slated for an October 4th release via BMG. Today, about a month out from the sophomore album’s public date, the band have debuted the third single, “Waiting,” which follows previous tracks “Magic Man” and “NYC (Sing It Loud).”

For the uninitiated, The Sherlocks consist of two pairs of brothers—vocalist and guitarist Kiaran Crook and drummer Brandon Crook, and bassist Andy Davidson and guitarist Josh Davidson—who began creating their first tunes circa 2010. Consisting of singles and EPs, the guys’ quickly picked up momentum, fans, an online presence, and label interest ultimately resulting in the above-mentioned debut, Live For The Moment. Fast forward to 2019, and here we are, with a new album and much ado about something! Eager fans can pre-save/order Under Your Sky here.

To further explore the band, their new album, and the single, we asked a few questions of Kiaran and Brandon; their answers are just below.

Okay, you can exhale. There’s no more “Waiting” for the band’s new single.

Let’s start with a playful question. The Sherlocks is composed of two pairs of two brothers each, making this a real family affair. How do you get by having a successful band without fighting all day? Or is the fighting the real secret to success?

Brandon: “When we were younger there were quite a few moments between myself and Kiaran. Including having arguments on stage, with drumsticks getting thrown about. Normally when the beers get flowing that’s when trouble normally stems if any, but we’ve grown up together in this band and we are all mature enough to realise there is nothing actually worth arguing about. We have a solid unit and being two sets of brothers adds to the beauty of The Sherlocks.”

I love where the lyrical content of your brand new single “Waiting” is coming from. I find the lyrics both introspective and thought-provoking in that life is a lot about waiting for something or someone and really it’s a never-ending cycle of just waiting and waiting, depending on one’s situation. What inspired you to head down this lyrical road?

Kiaran: “I was waiting for something myself - probably Brandon to get ready for snooker.”

What can you tell us about the writing and recording process for “Waiting?” Give us a glimpse into how this song was written, what the collaborative process was like among the band members and how long it took. Was this a quick one or was it painstaking?

Brandon: “The song was recorded in Parr Street Studio, Liverpool. It was stripped back to the bare bones and the structure was rearranged as James Skelly (producer) thought there were too many ideas flying around. Once we nailed the structure and the bass groove locking in with the kick drum, it became very easy to record and the ideas were flowing.”

A live, performance video of The Sherlocks’s new single “NYC (Sing It Loud):”

Take us through the time from when you finished touring behind Live For The Moment to when you started work on Under Your Sky. How long was it before you were writing and recording again and then back in the recording studio?

Kiaran “Some of the songs on the 2nd album were written before the 1st album! We are always writing constantly and trying to perfect songs in the studio before we go in. We recorded the album exactly 2 years after the 1st album but we were ready to record 6 months prior to this.”

What stands out as your proudest achievement now upon the release of Under Your Sky? And if you could have done something differently in hindsight, what would that be?

Brandon: “Everything happens for a reason, so we wouldn’t change a thing. We’ve had an absolute blast of time so far and long may it continue. One of the highlights of our career would be doing a month-long tour across the U.S. Even when we were tired because of all the travelling, the fans in across the U.S. & Canada really made every night enjoyable! We loved it all and we can’t wait to come back.”
