Warner Music Canada is thrilled to announce the North American release of the album 'Works Well With Others', the first major label solo release from musician Hugh Dillon. 'Works Well With Others' will be released on Tuesday, October 13, 2009. Fans can listen to the album now by logging on to www.hughdillon.com.
Dillon credits the songwriting process as his creative outlet. "There's a freedom in songwriting when you don't have the pressures of writing for a band or an audience or a live performance. I’ve always considered myself a songwriter. I never really stop thinking about words and music."
For 'Works Well With Others', the rough around the edges Hugh that fans had come to know has given way to a more dapper Mr. Dillon. But his trademark, no bullshit, tell-it-like-it-is approach rings loud and clear throughout the album. From the remarkably restrained yet somehow soaring first single and album-opener “Friends of Mine” to the poignant and wistful “Sentimental Me” the swampy, Stonesy throw-back rocker “Ten Feet Tall” and the effortlessly poppy “Surface of the Sun,” Dillon is utterly at home and relaxed in the sonic scenes and set dressings he's created for himself on this, his solo major label debut.
Hugh Dillon first earned notoriety in Canada and abroad as the lead-singer in the multi-platinum band The Headstones. Throughout their career The Headstones were a relentless touring machine whose live shows were near legendary thanks in large part to Dillon’s intense performances. But Hugh never let his antics get in the way of his songwriting which was always key to the band’s success. He has been praised as a brutally honest songwriter never afraid to tackle difficult or taboo subject matter.
It was early on in The Headstones’ six album career that director Bruce McDonald first noticed Hugh and cast him in his 1994 film Dance Me Outside. Next came his critically acclaimed performance as Joe Dick in McDonald‘s 1996 feature film Hard Core Logo.
In 2007 Hugh began his role as Mike Sweeney in the dark and twisted series Durham County. His performance as Ed Lane in the CBS/CTV co-production Flashpoint has introduced him to an even wider audience in the United States. The recently announced 2009 Gemini Award nominees found Hugh in the unprecedented position of being nominated in two different categories – Best Performance by an Actor in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role (Flashpoint) and Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series (Of Murder and Memory).
But for all of his acting, Dillon has never strayed far from his musical roots. He brings his music to whatever project he works on and original pieces have been included in Flashpoint, Durham County, The Trailer Park Boys: The Movie and the Jennifer Lynch-directed film Surveillance. Hugh recorded Works Well With Others in Kingston at The Tragically Hip’s Bathouse Recording Studio with the Hip’s Paul Langlois who produced the album.
The Genie nominated actor has since starred in the critically acclaimed Sundance Film Festival award winning movie Down to the Bone alongside Vera Farmiga (The Departed) as well as notable roles in feature films Lone Hero, Assault On Precinct 13 and The Trailer Park Boys: The Movie.
