It’s December so officially Christmas time and who better to host your party than those magnificent pop-punk buffoons known as Bowling For Soup. In fact, by the time the Almost Christmas Tour rolls into Leeds for the final night, the queue snaking around the venue are certainly looking in the mood for a Christmas Party BFS style!

Opening the night is Dallas three-piece Not Ur Girlfrenz who bound out onto the stage and make sure the BFS Christmas Party kicks off with a bang. For a band of such a young age ( bassist Gigi is only 12), the three girls certainly have the place rocking from the off with tracks like “New Kids Of America” and “Game Over” while their cover of My Chemical Romance’s “I’m Not Okay” is bang on the money. Displaying more confidence than a band of that age should have, it’s going to be interesting to see where this lot go.

A mere thirty seconds into their set and Patent Pending frontman Joe Ragosta has already launched himself headlong into the masses who greet him with outstretched arms. From that point on, neither Ragosta nor the rest of the pop-punk outfit stand still as the bounce, jump and skip about the stage even managing to pull off some impressive synchronised boy band style moves. As for the songs well, between goofing about, the band smashed out some top quality pop punk in the form of “Let It Burn” and set closer “Douchebags”. By now, it’s mayhem on stage and this party is well and truly ready for the headliners.

Hands up if you think Patent Pending are a bunch of "Douchebags" ?

Regardless of this being the last night of the tour or not, with their own personal bar on stage, it was always going to get messy when Bowling For Soup made their appearance. Always known for their entertaining live shows, the fact that this was an end of tour Christmas Party gave them and their touring friends every reason go for broke and they did just that. Reeling off classic after classic, the set list had all your favourites including “Punk Rock 101”, “High School Never Ends” and “The Girl All The Bad Guys Want” all accompanied by the voices of a thousand or so fans who were well and truly in the “Christmas spirit”. With members of both support bands invading the stage, like all the best Christmas parties, things quickly descending into mayhem as Bowling For Soup and a thousand or so of their very drunken friends made sure they all had very Merry Christmas.
