Alt-rock staples Walk The Moon are in the final couple weeks of their winter headlining run with post-punk rockers Bear Hands. We caught up with them on a chilly Thursday night in Portland, Maine at the State Theatre for a nearly sold-out show.
Bear Hands started the night off with a performance before a packed venue, and although things sounded a bit rough at the outset, they improved as their set went on, especially for hits, “Blue Lips,” and “Giants.”
Up next, Walk The Moon made their way to a dazzlingly lit stage. The crowd went nuts as frontman Nicholas Petricca, clad in his signature suspenders, strutted his way out to the center. The band kicked things off with “Lisa Baby,” and “Different Colors,” before diving deeper into bigger hits like “One Foot,” and later on, “Shut Up and Dance,” which became one big sing-along with the audience fully participating. At one point during their set, the band called attention to one fan in the front row, who they believe has the record for most Walk The Moon shows attended, at fifty shows so far!
“Timebomb” is the just-released latest single and video from Walk The Moon.
While their music is great on record, Walk The Moon translates even better as a live act; they put on such a fantastic show. Much of this lies with the infectious nature of the energy put forth by Petricca as he dances his way about the stage, belting out each line flawlessly. Their set would go on to include fan-favorite songs “Kamikaze,” “Avalanche,” and even a cover of “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker Jr. By the end of the show, the sweaty fans filing out of the venue into the windy cold night were warmed by the satisfaction gained from catching one of the best tours this season.
If you want to see Walk the Moon in an intimate setting, now is your chance. Their headlining tour runs through February 17th before the band joins up with Muse on their “Simulation Theory Tour” on February 22nd.
