The kids from Lansing, Michigan are back with their full-length sophomore set. And they just might have unleashed one of the most appealing records of the year. Crisp and crunchy, the latest effort from Hot Mulligan offers a catchy collection of 11 concise ear worms that’s sure to resonate with the spirit animal that resides within the hearts of most Taking Back Sunday and Good Charlotte fans.

Simply put, if you’re not hooked immediately by the zesty guitar-driven intro of the opening track, “Deluxe Capacitor,” you’ll surely be reeled in by the post-relationship emotion-factor of the record’s radio-friendly lead single, “All You Wanted by Michelle Branch.” Other highlights include the super-charged, “Good Ol’ Mr. Rags” and the oft-viewed YouTube clip, “How Do You Know It’s Not Armadillo Shells?” Now, if those tracks don’t arouse your aural senses, you probably oughtta call an EMT.

A common struggle for many of today’s pop-punk hopefuls is finding their own unique voice — to “borrow” from just enough of the right sources to create their “own thing.” With Pilot, Hot Mulligan has accomplished that objective successfully.
