In this installation of our Women of Rock series, we get the whimsical, insatiably quirky pseudo-pop-punkers T-Rextasy to give us a list of 5 female-centric acts they love. Hailing from NYC, these dashing dino dames - a self abscribed moniker - are currently revitalizing the punk and pop scenes with their unique blend of bubblegum pop meets lo-fi punk. Check out the band’s video for “Girl, Friend” and peruse their list of favourite artists, compiled collaboratively by Ébun, Annie, Vera, and Lyris.

T-Rextasy’s latest single, “Girl, Friend”, released on June 20th.

01. Salt-N-Pepa (New York City, NY)
Genres: Hip-Hop, Rap
Links: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

- I love how fearlessly nasty they are with their lyrics. They are not afraid to talk about what they want sexually and I think that is really important especially being black women. They are a true inspiration to the nasty girls in all of us! - Ébun

Sample the seminal song “Push It”.

02. St. Vincent (Dallas, TX)
Genres: Art Rock, Indie Rock
Links: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

- She is an incredible musician who doesn’t involve ego in production - she shreds harder than almost every guy but she’ll bury the sound of her guitar if it sounds better as an organ. Also she is a performer to boot. - Annie

Stand witness to “Digital Witness”.

03. Liz Phair (Chicago, IL)
Genres: Indie Rock, Lo-Fi, Alternative Rock
Links: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

- She has an impeccable and unexpected sense of rhythm in accompaniment, and her songs bring the drama. - Vera

Here’s the video for the certified gold single, “Why Can’t I”.

04. SZA (St. Louis, MI)
Genres: R&B
Links: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

- Her music touches my heart and soul in ways that other artists have not. I love her voice and the way in which she sings. Her lyrics are also super relatable and nuanced. Her style is amazing, too. - Ébun

“Garden (Say It Like Dat)” featuring the acting chops of Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino.

05. Zenizen (Brooklyn, NY)
Genres: R&B, Soul
Links: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

- Opal Hoyt is not an only an incredible psychedelic/groovy/“soul trip” songwriter but has a captivating stage presence involving a KEYTAR and a pop star headset mic. Also she has incredible style. The band is coming out with some new recordings soon and I can’t wait!! - Lyris

Open up your eyes, and mind, with Zenizen’s video for “Expanding”.
