Cleveland, OH-based rockers, Ottawa, continue to promote their recent single “Strangers”, the first of six brand new tracks, and are today unveiling a live, in-studio video featuring an acoustic reworking of the song. The original can be heard below, or via the service of your choice here, but you’ll agree the acoustic version is a dope accompaniment to the “plugged in” format.
Following a year of writing and recording, Ottawa are stoked to finally get their music to the proverbial masses. Each tune will be dropping over the coming weeks and one is better than the other. Speaking of the single in question, bassist Jeremy Barnes noted:
“Writing ‘Strangers’ was a very memorable experience for us because the whole song came together in about an hour. Outside of one tweak to the chorus during our recording session, the song remained exactly as it was from the day we wrote it. Our guitarist, Will, has this super distinct way of strumming and was playing around with the chords you hear in the intro. during one of our practices. The second Dale (singer) heard it he had him loop it and came up with the verse melody in a matter of minutes. It was one of those sincere refrains that just stays with you and when he delivers one of those to us, the song almost always becomes something. I loved the melody so much that I stole it for my bassline (thanks Dale!). Our other guitarist, Tim, had been sitting on a really cool riff for months that hadn't been used in any of our other songs yet and it just so happened to fit perfectly into this one. Before we knew it the song was written and we never looked back!”
Elaborating further on the acoustic reworking’s video, as debuted above, vocalist Dale DeLong noted: “There’s loads of trial and error when it comes to doing anything video related; working with Brad has been a huge relief because he just makes everything look so damn good. It helped that we we're in a really great looking studio that our good friend and engineer, Jim Stewart, works out of in downtown Cleveland. We’re really happy with how these acoustic videos turned out, and ‘Strangers’ is a great ice breaker!”
