This is “How We Begin” our weeks here at PureGrainAudio, with more new music and bands that, if you don’t already know of ‘em, you should be added to your rock radar. The Y Axes hails from San Francisco, CA and peddle their own rock potion that’s comprised of indie blasts, dreamy passages, synthy pop-infused melodies and straight-up ripping rock. Long story short, the group’s music should appeal to a wide array of aural aficionados. Point in case, their new single “How We Begin”, the second to be revealed off the upcoming album, No Waves, due out in early 2019.

Today we get to premiere the “How We Begin” video, yet another gem from the quartet which consists of founding members, vocalist Alexi Rose Belchere and guitarist Devin Nelson, plus bassist Jack Sundquist and drummer Paul Conroy, the latter of whom joined in 2015 and early 2018 respectively. Get to know these musicians today, and check out their past work via Bandcamp right here.

Speaking of the new single and video, Alexi Rose Belchere was kind enough to leave us with the following remarks:

“The song is about living in a hopeless time where it feels like I’m drowning in a constant feed of information and being suffocated by a paralyzing fear of the future. It reminds me that fear of the unknown needs to be transcended in order to carry on. It’s basically about how the world sucks and I can’t get absorbed by it if I’m going to carry on living. The video documents a summer of touring together and recording the upcoming album ‘No Waves.’ Shot by friends and fans, it features performances at bay area venues Bottom of the Hill and Makeout Room, festivals such as Ocean Beach Music and Arts Festival and Gold Rush, and tour shows and house parties around California.”
