Long Beach, California’s One High Five is a funky (and touch poppy) alt-punk rock band led by singer and songwriter David Sauer whose sophomore album, Beardlip, is due out this fall. Inspired musically by the likes of Green Day, NOFX, King Tuff and T-Rex, the new single, “Fast Food,” is a prime example of their catchy sound and cheeky, light-hearted lyrical content. Beardlip follows the group’s last release, 2015’s eight-track Here, Hear, and can be pre-ordered from Bandcamp here.
Today, supporting the new single and forthcoming studio recording, we’ve teamed with One High Five to debut their sticky, greasy, oh-so-dirty-in-all-the-right-ways music video for “Fast Food”; a song we think should become the much-loved artery-clogging food’s official anthem the world over. Speaking of the song and video, David Sauer kindly left us with some detailed thoughts to share:
“The phrase that comforts me recently is ‘the only thing constant is change.’ Using this as a mantra has helped me react, lead and reflect in more positive and productive ways than ever before. It wasn’t always like that. ‘Fast Food’ was written as a product of being frustrated within my own boundaries of what I thought I needed to do or who to be. With One High Five, I got lost going through multiple versions of the band and multiple versions of myself. I got stuck in a draining loop of restarting the band and redefining my goals and concept of success. I feel I was mentally stunted by my own creative ideals.”
This band is “Fully Operational,” and we eagerly await their new album.
Sauer continues, saying, “In ‘Fast Food,’ I related these feelings to committing to an unwanted surgery to change yourself and going through the process of debate, regret and bargaining. My journey is still going and I’m always reminded that being true to yourself is the best way to go. Life happens too fast and it’s hard to keep it all together. We’ve all experienced the struggle of wondering what you should do and who you should be. The negative influence of others and the fear of the unknown can be paralyzing but I know we can get past it.
I really hope this song, this album and my story can be a positive influence on anyone who might feel stuck in their personal life or creative process. You’re not alone, learn from both your good and bad days, stay true to yourself and remember the only thing constant is change.”
